So much for a feminist leader. What kind of feminist insists poor women's feritlity should be controlled by male millionaires, that minority women should be bred out of existence, that sterilization should be imposed upon women with Down Syndrome or genetic diseases? I'm sure Nancy Pelosi and Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Hillary Clinton are of the same ilk. I wish they'd read their Dickens a bit closer. Here is an excerpt from a "Christmas Carol" which I've posted before and will likely refer to again. Please take the time to remember who the poor and disenfranchised are before assuming life would be better off without them.
Then Bob proposed: "A Merry Christmas to us all, my dears. God bless us!''
Which all the family re-echoed. "God bless us every one!'' said Tiny Tim, the last of all.
He sat very close to his father's side upon his little stool. Bob held his withered little hand in his, as if he loved the child, and wished to keep him by his side, and dreaded that he might be taken from him.
"Spirit,'' said Scrooge, with an interest he had never felt before, "tell me if Tiny Tim will live.''
"I see a vacant seat,'' replied the Ghost, "in the poor chimney-corner, and a crutch without an owner, carefully preserved. If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, the child will die.''
"No, no,'' said Scrooge. "Oh, no, kind Spirit! say he will be spared.''
"If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, none other of my race,'' returned the Ghost, "will find him here. What then? If he be like to die, he had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.''
Scrooge hung his head to hear his own words quoted by the Spirit, and was overcome with penitence and grief.
"Man,'' said the Ghost, "if man you be in heart, not adamant, forbear that wicked cant until you have discovered What the surplus is, and Where it is. Will you decide what men shall live, what men shall die? It may be, that in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man's child. Oh God! to hear the Insect on the leaf pronouncing on the too much life among his hungry brothers in the dust!''

Oh, that sounds like an interesting book - I'll have to add it to my wish list!
Hi, I am in total agreement with you ... except for your remark about Nancy Pelosi, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Hillary Clinton. Do you have evidence that these women support eugenics? Do you have any statements from them supporting that point of view? The fact that they are Democrats and pro-choice does not make them elitists. In fact, they have been life-long advocates for the poor, the uneducated and for minorities. I hate to see somebody maligned without cause.
Someone can be pro-choice simply because there are a myriad of medical circumstances in which abortion is justified. Even the Catholic church teaches that it can be the least of all evils, depending on the circumstances.
Hi Jen, thanks for your comment. Yes, I have what I consider evidence, though you might interpret it differently. Nancy Pelosi made some very disturbing remarks to George Stephenopoulos last year about poor children and the economy; Ginsburg made similar remarks to the Times about Medicaid and abortion. Check out my post from July 28, 2009 for links to their comments.
Some say the same thing about Sanger that you say about the aforementioned politicians, that she advocated for the oppressed. But what some see as advocacy I see as a desire to eliminate portions of the population that are economically "inconvenient." Clinton has taken this idea to an international level with her push for more abortions in places where people are poorer and darker than herself. I'm sure I could dig up more if you are interested.
My turn to ask for evidence: where in Catholic teaching does it say abortion is a least of evils in some circumstances (looked through my catechism and except for ectopic pregnancy I can't find what you are referring to)? I look forward to your response!
